Madame President Gloria Parsons-Gray

Denver Section – NCNW beloved president, Mrs. Gloria Parsons-Gray passed from this life on August 30, 2011. Gloria’s death has brought sadness to each of the members as we will miss her presence, her wit, her leadership and friendship. Madame President, Gloria Parsons-Gray was born on May 22, 1942 and passed into the next life on August 30, 2011. Her passing has left a void within the Denver Section and throughout the community.

Gloria along with her husband, member Claude Gray were involed with several community organizations and were known as diligent workers and supporters.

Gloria was a faithful member and leader of the Denve Section – NCNWserving as Assistant Recording Secretary, Secretary, Program Committee Chair, Executive Board Chair, and graciously fulfilling her final position as President for the Denver Council for the past three years.

Gloria was committed to the legacy left by our founder, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, she she has left us and so many more with a legacy of her own. Through her example of community involvement, her caring style and strong leadership.

Gloria recognized the significance of women history and she worked to preserve the rich history of the National Council of Negro Women by coordinating the Denver Section’s archival project to preserve the organization’s history with the Blair-Caldwell African-American Research Library.

Madame President Parsons-Gray dedicated her life to service she lead the Denver Section to combat youth obesity and encouraged healthy living by implementing the national organization’s “Fit for Life” program at the local level. Gloria Parsons-Gray represented the organization well in the community, the city, and on the state and national level. She promoted excellence and equity in education, work with national affiliates to strengthen the economic and social position of women of color and their families.

In appreciation and as a living legacy, the Denver Section of the National Council of Negro Women commits to establish a memorial Educational Award in honor of Madame President Gloria’s, zeal and dedicated efforts focused on improving the health and wellness of our local youth. The inaugural “President Gloria Parson-Gray Educational Award” will be presented at this year’s 20th Annual Founder’s Day Harambee Brunch, being held Saturday, December 3, 2011 at the Doubletree Hotel.

Gloria’s passing has left the Denver Section deeply saddened. She will be missed, but never forgotten.  Rest in Peace our Dear Sister.
